Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Bria came home this afternoon and said she wanted to audition for a scholarship to a music/performing arts camp. My jaw literally dropped. Bria? WANTS to audition for something? However, I was not about to kill that desire, even if it was just because some of her friends were doing it and talking about how fun it would be to attend the camp this summer.

Anyway, Bria took the initiative to get her violin out after school and practice the heck out of the song that she planned to play. Joel, being the practice task-master that he is, came and staged one of his signature practice coups.

He worked her really hard. And, she eventually started getting frustrated at him, just like I do! Imagine that! That's when I snapped this photo...Bria just stopped playing, stamped her foot and told him to quit making her go so fast!

Later, she told me that the reason she was so mad at Daddy was because he was acting like the Asian kid's dad in "Akeelah and the Bee." I had to snicker at that.

I suppose it's the price you pay for being born to a father who happens to be a musical genius...

PS  Her audition the next morning went really well, except they only wanted about 10 measures of the concerto she worked so hard on.  Oh well, nothing wrong with extra practice time!
