Flowers grow out of dark moments.
~Corita Kent

Today it is snowing like crazy. And I am barely hanging on.

We had the missionaries and an investigator who is a student at the university over for dinner tonight. And he brought flowers--a big, bright, beautiful bouquet that promises spring is on its way.

I hope they last a very long time...because I need a little spring in my life!

I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.
~Winston Churchill

This job has needed doing for a few months now.

I should mention it is the job I loathe most. More than dishes, laundry, toilets...I'll do anything before having to sort clothing for the storage bins. Ugh.

But it'd done. For now. My girls grow so dang fast that it seems like I'm doing this every month--or at least I should be doing it every month!

Sleeping is no mean art: for its sake one must stay awake all day.
~Friedrich Nietzsche

Isn't Bria cute?

Of all my children, she's the one who is a morning person. And can't stay awake much past 9 or 10.

She was watching Joel and Chloe play Mario together tonight, and I snapped the picture of her all cozied up in the blanket. But a few minutes later, she was folded in half and sound asleep. Girl can sleep anywhere!

She slept like that for a good while before we all packed it in and got her to bed.

Things work out, it isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out, don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. If you do your best, it will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in him, if we will pray to him, if we will live worthy of his blessings, he will hear our prayers.
~Gordon B. Hinckley

What a strange picture! What on earth is that in my oven?

Oh.

It's a plastic bag full of uncooked rice, and an iPhone.

When I found it, it seemed pretty sure that it wouldn't work. After all, I most likely ran over it with my minivan. What phone works after that?

Apparently mine does. It seems it was the water from the snow that actually did it in. It worked for a while, and even though I put it in rice ASAP, it stopped working and has never come back on. I even kept it under the oven light bulb for two days, and still nada. I'm going to take it to a repair shop in Green Bay in a couple weeks, but until then I'm using a very stupid phone. Can't believe how spoiled I became!

I'll be honest. I nearly had a nervous breakdown over the whole phone thing. I've barely been keeping myself together and it was just the last straw, you know? But, after a few days, I've calmed down. And there's a plan in place. And, things work out.

Just like they always do.

I stop and look at traffic accidents. I won't hang around, but when I hear something is terrible, as bad as it is, I've gotta look at it.
Norman Lear

This morning, the kids were out of school due to a teacher inservice. We slept a little later than usual, thank goodness! At about 8:30 in the morning, I got a text from a friend wondering if I'd seen the car accident in front of my house yet.

Of course, like a normal human being, I shot out of bed where I was lazily reading, and went to look outside. I could see the police cars, but I couldn't see anything that resembled an accident. I did notice something odd in my neighbor's yard, but I didn't think it was the car.

Turns out it was. This picture is taken after I crossed the street for a closer look. From my front window, it kind of blended in with the scenery and if you didn't look hard, you'd definitely miss it.

Last night, while Joel was at rehearsal and I was cuddling with Sophia and reading in bed, I could hear the cars struggling to get up our steep hill. I hadn't even realized it was snowing! This morning, the amount of snow surprised me, and the roads were more treacherous than they usually are after a storm (we might have even had a snow day if school wasn't already out!). There were more accidents around town than just this one, and I had my iPhone accident later this afternoon, which involved slipping on the ice, dropping my phone, and not noticing.

And then most likely running over it with my car.

But this picture shows it could have been worse, and I am focusing on that.  (FYI, nobody was badly hurt...the driver suffered a mild concussion, and that was all.  The car itself was even in remarkably good shape!)

I will not play tug o’ war.
I’d rather play hug o’ war.
Where everyone hugs instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins,
and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins.

Shel Silverstein

Today was a day where I totally forgot to take a picture until I was already in bed, cuddling with Sophia and reading my book.

I remembered just in the nick of time to snap a picture of the two of us cuddling. But, I never uploaded that picture, and the very next day my iPhone had an accident from which it has not yet recovered. I'm guessing it probably won't recover, but if it does, I will put the picture up.

Meanwhile, I will still enjoy cuddling with my girlies. It's one of the best parts of the day.

A husband is a guy who tells you when you've got on too much lipstick and helps you with your girdle when your hips stick.
Ogden Nash

I've been blessed with a wonderful husband. This particular morning, knowing I was depressed about my weight and freaking out about some upcoming performances, he took the time to sit with me in my office and come up with a plan of action.

Knowing that his support is behind me and that he will help to pick up my slack while I am busy working out and practicing makes all the difference in the world.

After our very productive meeting,  I pointed the camera at him and of course he had to pull a goofy face.  Which is just so him.

Mamma Mia, here I go again!
ABBA

Joel bought me the DVD of Mamma Mia! for Valentine's Day, knowing how much I enjoy that movie. The girls and I watched it Friday night, and now they are completely obsessed with the music. Bria and Chloe dug up the CD so they could memorize all the lyrics, and Sophia is trying her best to keep up with her sisters.

The conductor must breathe life into the score. It is you and you alone who must expose it to the understanding, reveal the hidden jewel to the sun at the most flattering angles.
Charles Munch

The Maestro had a concert tonight. We usually go out to dinner before, just the two of us, but sometimes Joel has some last minute score study to do while we are waiting for our food.

Concert week and all that comes with it (extra rehearsals, never seeing my husband, score study day and night) are the necessary evils in being married to an orchestra conductor. Those evils are worth it, though, because I know how much he loves what he does, and it's pretty wonderful to have a husband who is happy in his career.

Some tortures are physical
And some are mental,
But the one that is both
Is dental.

~Ogden Nash

Orthodontist visits today. Bria had her braces tightened for the first time, and Chloe received her brand, sparkly (literally!), new retainer.

At first, she couldn't talk to save her life. It was rather humorous to listen to her sounding a bit like Daffy Duck all day. But, by the end of the day, she had the hang of it.

She also had quite a bit of pain by the end of the day. My poor girls and all of their dental suffering.
